Avijit Das is a renowned Kuchipudi Artist, Dancer, Choreographer, and an Instructor. As an artist he has over 10 years of experience and has been invited to perform as a soloist at prestigious dance festivals across the globe including USA, Mexico, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Bhutan. Nationally he had more than 100 performances to his accolade across India.
His stunning stage presence, intrinsic understanding of dancing techniques and soulful expressions from heart, reverberates through the spirits of his audience. With every performance, he continues to take every viewer through a journey of self-identity and introspection. Very few artists can invoke that connect to the internal Self, Mr. Das is one of those rare finds. His expertise in this art form has been recognized and appreciated by diverse audience across countries and cultures. Many a time, deep human emotion is augmented to story-telling in dance and when these human emotions are expressed in a fluidic artform as beautiful as Mr.Das’s Kuchipudi, it is bound to cast a spell exploring the boundaries of being human.
Even critics describe him as “an extraordinary dancer with incredible power radiating from his center”. For some, their experience turned surreal and ineffable: “Words are inadequate in detailing such marvels; some things have to be seen to be believed”. “Remarkable for its brisk tempo, expressive body language, rhythmic footwork and varying facial expression” expressed another critic. New York Times called Mr. Das as “Lithe and seemingly never tired, he’s a force of nature “. They even went on to compare his dance presentation to that of the veteran Bharatanatyam dancer Rama Vaidyanathan. The Hindu reviewed him as “Moving like a master”. SOTHEBY’S studio, London, showcased three of his dancing still-photographs as the Indian Classical dancer in its exhibition, “INSPIRED BY INDIA”.
His performance and skills got him featured as an exquisite dancer in many prestigious gazettes. In addition to being a Kuchipudi dancer, he is also a Bharatanatyam dancer from the highly reputed Kalakshetra and holds a Diploma in Carnatic music. He has been recognized as a Grade artist in the National television of India, Dhoordharshan.
Avi was initiated into Bharatanatyam at the age of five under the guidance of Smt. Sanaka Biswas of Shanti Niketan, West Bengal, India. Avi obtained his Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Kalakshetra (Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts), Chennai, India ( http://www.kalakshetra.in/ ) on a meritorious scholarship in 2011. He also developed keen interest in the Kuchipudi style of dance. After initial training in Kuchipudi Art Academy ( http://www.kuchipudi.com/ ) under legendary Guru Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam and renowned Kuchipudi exponent Smt. Manju Bharggavee, he is currently training under the guidance of Sri Jaikishore Mosalikanti And Smt Padmavani Mosalikanti ( http://shivamohanam.com/shivamohanam/ ). Avi also has a Diploma in Carnatic music.
